Rules

The goal of the same is to "Shut the Box." In this case, shutting the box means changing the color of all numbers 1-12. Many variations of this game exist. Here are rules for one way to play.

  • Roll 1 or 2 dice. If 7, 8, and 9 are still orange, the player must roll both dice. If not, the player can decide to roll 1 or 2 dice.
  • After rolling, the play changes the color of any combination of numbers that have the sum as the number rolled. For example, if the player rolls an 8, the player can change the color of any of the following: 8, 7 & 1, 6 & 2, 5 & 3, 5 & 2 & 1, or 4 & 3 & 1.
  • The player continues in this manner until either all the numbers have changed color or the player is unable to use the numbers they have rolled. In this case, their turn is over and the player's score is the sum of all the dice that have not changed color. For example, if only the 3 is left unchanged and the player rolls a 7, their turn is over and their score is a 3. If a player succeeds in changing the color of all numbers, they earn a score of 0.
  • The game can be played with any number of players and any number of rounds.
